The translator, who was born in Salamanca and has made Alicante his home, was awarded the “Adolfo Marsillach” Prize at the 37th annual awards ceremony of the Association of Spanish Stage Directors (ADE).
Gómez Grande has been recognized for his “tireless efforts” in promoting and translating contemporary dramatic literature into French, his commitment to the text and to theater, and his work over many years at the Alicante Festival of Contemporary Spanish Theater.
Although retired from teaching, Gómez Grande remains active in translating plays by French authors. He has translated more than a hundred plays, most of which have been published over the course of more than three decades. His most recent published translation was *Nadie se mueve* by Enzo Cormann.
Gómez Grande was previously awarded the 2004 María Martínez Sierra Translation Prize by the ADE itself and is a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, a distinction conferred upon him by the French Ministry of Culture in 2005
